Can Polymers Help Ohio Fight the Opioid Crisis?
Dismayed by an excessively large quantity of low-cost oxycodone pills prescribed to his wife after a surgery, Matthew Becker began to wonder about nonopioid alternatives for pain management. As Associate Dean at the University of Akron’s Department of Polymer Science, he began to examine degradable polymers that his team had previously developed for hernia repairs as an implantable alternative for delivering nonopioid pain medication.
