Hydrocarbon polymers with a high oil absorption capacity have been developed by a Penn State research team headed by Mike Chung, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering. While Chung’s research shows great potential to aid in oil spill recovery and cleanup, it has also garnered him a large grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

The National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC) has released a Fact Sheet on the recent WannaCry Ransomware cyber attack. According to SecureState, a global management cybersecurity consulting firm in Cleveland, Ohio, industries running legacy systems — such as many manufacturers — are still at a high risk of infection. The information released by NCCIC in their fact sheet, as well as the information relayed in SecureState’s recent article on WannaCry, are important reads for those in the manufacturing industry.

No college is more dedicated to Ohio’s polymer industry than the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering (CPSPE) at The University of Akron. So it stands to reason that CPSPE organizes and hosts the “Polymers Appreciation Day for Alumni and Industry”.

Technology is currently being adopted within the manufacturing sector that will redefine the way factories work. This “Fourth Industrial Revolution” is known worldwide as Industry 4.0. Because these technologies enable physical-to-digital-to-physical connectivity, they will drive productivity and efficiency to levels that are difficult to appreciate at this time.
