The lunar lander that took Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin to the moon 50 years ago needed to be strong, safe and lightweight. On July 20, 1969, when the Apollo 11 team successfully stepped onto the lunar surface, plastics and other strong, lightweight materials helped make it happen — often not alone, but in combination with rubber, aluminum, other metals and high-tech fabrics.

COLUMBUS, Ohio —Ohio’s new law prohibiting the installation of unsafe used tires took effect July 1, according to the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association—which championed the law—and the Ohio Tire and Automotive Association.

Research that has been taking place at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. was recently presented at their annual Customer Care Conference. The company has been looking into alternative methods of tire manufacturing and, among them, the most promising was soybean oil.

PhilPott Solutions Group’s new CEO Jim Vaughn has big plans for the company. In addition to working tirelessly to bring the company’s plastic injection and rubber molding work back from China, Vaughn has made plans to use the 43,000-square-foot plant that PhilPott purchased in 2016 to move the company’s West Virginia chemical operations to Aurora, Ohio.
