Reduction in CPSE Faculty Not Ideal for Ohio Polymer Industry

On Friday, March 2nd, the dean of the University of Akron’s College of Polymer Science and Engineering (CPSE), Eric Amis, announced that he would relinquish his position in June of this year. This is just the latest in a reduction of staff that the college has seen over the past two to three years — staff that has not been replaced by the financially strapped university. The importance of the polymer industry to Ohio’s economy is significant, and the importance of CPSE to the approximately 2,000 polymer companies in the state carries the same weight. CPSE’s current struggles and downsizing will no doubt affect Ohio’s polymer companies in the areas of both R&D and recruiting.
