The opiod crisis in the United States has been nothing short of an epidemic, causing many researchers to turn their attention to solutions to help ease its impact. A Department of Polymer Science associate professor at the University of Akron, along with his colleagues, is developing a polymer “wet wipe” that will assist first responders in the detection of opiods in the system of a user.

Fun fact: Ohio doesn’t have an official state microbe, but local students are determined to put an end to that atroscity. Otterbein University’s American Society for Microbiology is currently working on a project called MicrOhio. Its aim is to establish an official state microbe for Ohio in the same way that we have a state flower or bird.
