The University of Akron’s College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering (CPSPE) is the recipient of approximately $4 million in federal grants, coming at a time when university trustees have approved investments in “key areas of strength and opportunity.”

Advanced Polymer Coatings, Inc. (APC), based in Avon, Ohio, has entered into an exclusive North American distribution agreement with Strathmore Products to bring APC’s custom lining solutions to the rail industry.

PhilPott Solutions Group’s new CEO Jim Vaughn has big plans for the company. In addition to working tirelessly to bring the company’s plastic injection and rubber molding work back from China, Vaughn has made plans to use the 43,000-square-foot plant that PhilPott purchased in 2016 to move the company’s West Virginia chemical operations to Aurora, Ohio.

Industry Analyst Kevin Swift, American Chemistry Council’s chief economist, projects a significant increase over the next five years in plastics investments in Ohio. In addition to the projected investments, the American Petroleum Institute predicts an increase in natural gas jobs in Ohio and across the United States.

Beginning in July, Ohio drivers will receive a new design when they renew their licenses. In addition to other security features built into the design, the licenses will be made of a 5-layer polymer that will make them much harder to counterfeit.

It may seem like October 5th — MFG DAY 2018 — is far enough away not to worry just yet about the planning stages, but it will be here before you know it. There are only three months between now and the big day. As any good event planner would tell you, starting sooner rather than later ensures the success of your event.
