Soybean Oil Could Replace Petroleum in Goodyear Tires
Research that has been taking place at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. was recently presented at their annual Customer Care Conference. The company has been looking into alternative methods of tire manufacturing and, among them, the most promising was soybean oil. Goodyear has actually been experimenting with the use of soybean oil for several years and has already used it to produce the Assurance WeatherReady passenger tire. With petroleum making up 24% of passenger and light-truck tires, and 11% of truck tires, the benefits of using soybean oil versus petroleum are an improvement in manufacturing efficiency and a reduction in energy consumption.
